Sports and recreation involve a great number of citizens of all ages who take leadership and develop skills of leadership through sport and recreation involvement. The 2008 General Social Survey (GSS) asked what specific organizations Canadians were involved with in the last 12 months. By far the highest percentage identified sports or recreation as the main area of involvement (33.2%) followed by school/community (21.9%), and religious organizations (20%).
